Praise in the Night

In glorious streams of golden light,
The sun reaches down to scatter night.
Darkness may linger on till the dawn,
But birds sing forth an expectant song.
Their voices pierce the darkest veil:
Welcoming the sun without fail.
They prepare for the sun's sure return
With a joyous song---from them we learn...

That though the darkness lingers long
We too should lift up a faithful song
To pierce the darkness with the praise
Of the risen Son who comes to raise
Our lowly bodies---these jars of clay---
To glorious life in an unending day.

And though the darkness is now all that we see
Let's raise our voices in faith and believe
That praise in the night paves the way for the dawn
When the Son shall return and the night shall be gone.
