The Everlasting Word
The glorious truth shines forth from Scripture that the Word of God stands forever. Life on earth is a vapor that will soon pass away, but the promises of God found in the Bible will never fade. “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever” (Isaiah 40:8). Along with God’s Word standing firm forever is the beautiful promise that His love also endures forever. “…the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him…” (Psalm 103:17).
These Bible verses inspired me to write this poem, and I hope and pray that God uses it to point all who read it to the glorious truth that Jesus Christ is the Everlasting Word of God and that His love for His people endures forever.
The Everlasting Word
Lift your eyes now, O my soul
See the One who fights for you
When your sin is all you see
Lift your eyes to Calvary
For there the Everlasting Word---
The Son of God and Son of Man
Stretched out His hands and died
In my place was crucified
Lift your eyes now, O my soul
Trust the One who died for you
Though Jesus died there all alone
You were crucified there too
What mystery of faith is found
Hidden in God’s eternal Word
That when Jesus took my sin
My flesh was also nailed to Him
Lift your eyes now, O my soul
Praise the One whose Word stands firm
For He is risen from the grave
Exalted to the highest place
For He is powerful and true
Full of grace and rich in mercy
What He says is what He’ll do
All His promises are true
Lift your eyes now, O my soul
Rest in the One who stands for you
Though Satan shoots His fiery darts
You are Hidden in Christ’s Heart
For the everlasting love
Of the Lord shall have no ending
Though I fear my faith should fail
His perfect power shall prevail
For now the Everlasting Word---
The Son of God and Son of Man
Is lifted high to be
My Savior for eternity
