Feast Upon God's Word

"For God's will was for us to be made holy by the. sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time."

~Hebrews 10:10

"But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand. For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy."

~Hebrews 10:12,14

White Clover

"And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus."

~Hebrews 10:19

Black-headed Worm

"By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place."

~Hebrews 10:20

Gray Field Slug

"And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water."

~Hebrews 10:21‭-‬22

"Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise."

~Hebrews 10:23

Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever beleives in me shall never thirst."

~John 6:35

On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'"

~John 7:37-38

"They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

~Revelation 7:16-17

Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted to her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure....Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.

~Revelation 19:6-9

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me."

~Revelation 3:20

"The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat!"

~Luke 12:37

As I sit outside on the porch this early morning, I witness a wondrous truth all around me. God has given each of His creatures a special job---yet they have no idea! These little creatures are set on one thing throughout the day---food!

I see horses grazing in the pasture. They are munching all throughout the day---nature's lawn mowers! Flies cannot even deter these animals from their nibbling for they just swoosh their tails at the winged nuisances.

Earth worms, all slimy and wiggly, eat through unwanted leftovers, dead leaves and roots and leave behind minerals and nutrients in their poop that makes soil healthy and ready for growing plants. These worms also tunel through their underground world leaving tiny holes that moisture can sneak into to water the ground below. Do these little wigglers set out each morning to rid the world of waste and create nutritious dirt for gardeners? No! They just wake up each day eating, and they eat their way through the day!

A mama and daddy bird do the same for their nest full of babies. All day long, I have watched them search out food and bring it back for their hungry brood. Their babies greedily and eagerly open their mouths wide with delight at the new taste placed inside by their parents. They are so dependant on their parents to feed them good things, and that is all they do all day long! Yet it is what makes these babies grow, and one day these little birds will fill God's world with their songs.

Bumble bees fly and buzzz from clover to clover. Do they know they are pollinating the world and keeping these plants alive? No, they are simply eating and doing what God created them to do.

All of God's creatures around the world have one great business that they attend to every day and it is to feast upon all the good things that God has provided for them. I watch them and marvel at how simple their lives seem compared to my own. Yet perhaps I should follow their example, of course always through the lens of God's Word, which says in Deuteronomy that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. In the beginning, God created all sorts of creatures to feast upon the good things he had made, but he created humans in his image with the capacity to not only enjoy eating the good things that he created but to enjoy him and know him intimately!

The fall ruined everything, because Adam and Eve feasted on something God had forbidden. They sinned and the consequence was dire for them and for us as well. For that one bite seperated us all from God and no longer could we feast upon him and his glory like he created us to do.

However, what we lost with Adam and Eve in the fall, Jesus Christ won back for us at the cross. Before Jesus died on the cross, he faced Satan's unrelenting temptation in the wilderness. Satan also tempted Jesus to feast on forbidden things just like he had tempted Eve to do, but Jesus chose to feast on God's Word instead. Then at the cross Jesus crushed the serpent's head and opened up the way for us to feast upon God once again and enjoy his glory and beauty. Whoever is thirsty and hungry may come to the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ and be forgiven and welcomed into God's Kingdom with eternal life, which is knowing God forever without end. Eternal life is a never ending feast upon the wondrous God who has created us and saved us by His amazing grace through Jesus Christ!

The beautiful and wonderful thing is that eternal life is not some far off reality for those of us who believe and treasure the Lord Jesus. No, eternal life is now! We enjoy knowing and feasting upon God by faith through His Word right here and right now. One day our faith will be turned to sight, but until that day our great business each day is to feast upon God's Word.

Imagine if we make this our purpose each day---grazing upon God's Word, slowly eating God's promises, feeding our souls and our children the little verses that we pull up moment by moment, and gliding from passage to passage as we search and enjoy God's Word---all throughout the day, then we too will enter into doing what God designed us to do to begin with, and we may not know what God does through us in our eating, but He will do amazing and wonderful things that we could never imagine---just by eating! So face this day ahead by feasting upon God's Word all throughout the day!
